Cookbooks

Soup is making a zine.

Cookbooks are physical artifacts, objects created from start to finish by humans. The goal is a collection of manifestos, screeds, fiction, poetry, and other things you should know about. Think StumbleUpon, but print. They're playful and interactive. You pick it up, you read something amazing, you turn the page, you read something different and also amazing.

Submissions that are published will be paid $100+.

Write about whatever inspires you, whatever you think people should know, whatever your special interest is. The only hard constraint is that it is optimistic in nature: make us believe it's going to be OK, make us believe in a better future, or make us excited about something we didn't know about before.

The constraints:

  1. The throughline is optimism. No dooming.
  2. No temporal cultural references. If it won't make sense in 10 years, don't write it.
  3. Don't respond to someone else's take. Original ideas only.
  4. Don't write about culture. Make it.
